Huge experience: Quins set for huge test

Harlequins captain Will Skinner expects to face a barrage of sentiment against the Scarlets this weekend - but insists the English outfit can continue on their recent attacking path to claim victory.

The game on Saturday will be the final Heineken Cup fixture to be played at the infamous Stradey Park with Bristol landing the ultimate farewell visit on October 24 for EDF matters.

However, flank Skinner is confident that Quins can silence what promises to be an electric crowd by playing their customary brand of positive rugby - which has put them as top try-scorers in the league thus far.

Unlike other Guinness Premiership sides, Dean Richards' backs have embraced the new ELVs this season with full-back Mike Brown and wings Ugo Monye and David Strettle impressing from deep.

But the Twickenham team will be without England finisher Strettle, who has suffered a foot injury and is expected to be sidelined until Christmas, which Skinner admits is a major blow.

"We are all disappointed for Strets but injuries happen in professional rugby and we know the medical team will give him every help," he said, speaking to the London Evening Standard.

"Strets has been playing really well and, having come back from a similar setback before, he knows what is required.

"Someone will step into his role and we have a very strong belief and confidence in the squad. We all know that if you make a break then someone will be on your shoulder to back you up.

"People tell us we are producing exciting, attractive rugby which is some of the best they've seen.

"But we are keeping our feet on the ground and recognise we haven't done that for the full 80 minutes yet.

The Stradey spectacle promises to be a passionate affair for the home crowd with a full house expected to support the Scarlets on the opening weekend.

And Skinner is fully aware of the emotion in store with his young side sure to learn a lot about European rugby this weekend.

"In the Heineken Cup, you need to be at that level for the entire match and that's the challenge we face, otherwise opposition teams will take control," he added.

"We are a young side and playing the final Cup fixture at Stradey Park is going to be a huge experience for everyone.

"It is all about testing ourselves in these kind of matches against top teams on a very big stage."
