Ruptured Achilles tendon: Kevin Morgan

Former Wales full-back Kevin Morgan has sustained a serious ankle injury that will keep him sidelined for at least four months.

Morgan ruptured his Achilles tendon whilst training with the Dragons at the weekend.

The 31-year-old underwent an operation on Monday to repair the damage and his now started the slow recovery.

"[I'll have to] wait and see what happens", Morgan, who has won 48 Wales caps, told the BBC as he joins a growing list of Wales players out through injury.

Morgan has been plagued by a series of major knee and ankle injuries and the latest setback has raised question marks around the future of the Dragons star who has just one year left on his contract.

He has not featured in the Wales setup since Warren Gatland took over as Head Coach with his last international appearance dating back to Wales' clash with Japan in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

Morgan would have been keen to fight for a place in the Wales squad for the autumn internationals but those hopes have been dashed by his latest injury.

"I'm hoping I'll just be out for four months," he said.

"I've got a cast on at the moment and then it'll be a boot after that. Then it is just a case of wait and see."

Dan Martin, the Dragons physio, said the focus now would be on getting Morgan fit as soon as possible.

"Kevin will undergo an intensive rehabilitation programme yet will likely not return until December 2008," said Martin.
