@leebok, your failure to recognize sarcasm is amusing...c'mon man, im sure you can come up with a better comeback than "tweedledum49", how old are you, 12?...i can't believe I even wasted my time writing this post

@justice_4_all.... I appreciate what you're saying, and like I have said before in other posts, I have no problem with people debating and sharing their opinions here. I do not have a problem with his opinion, I have a problem with the way he expresses his opinion. This is a game built on mutual respect and sportsmanship... we can disagree but we do so with respect

''leebok: You small minded people. Oh I forgot. The Kiwis are whiter than white. my mistake." that is uncalled for and that is what I was referring to when I called his comments stupid, immature and un-educated, and these aren't the only ones

if he is just doing it to wind people up then maybe I just need to take it with a pinch of salt.

@peewee

i'm talking about the citing process, not guilt.

both cases are effectively verbal allegations of foul play with no video evidence. dylan hartley gets cited, nobody was cited from the bulls / saders game. the only difference (barring the type of alleged offences) really is that a white card was used in the S15 game and it was verbally picked up in the england ireland game

hartley only pleaded guilty at the hearing, not prior to the citing itself

@capedcrusader

there are many a dumb afrikaaner i agree. most people do realise the 80s are over, but i hear you still have cassette tapes for sale in the south of NZ and mullets didnt really ever go out of fashion in NZ did they? pot kettle anyone?

Sorry, CORRECTION: I meant to say "are the HURRICANES untouchable or something..."

Posted 18:56 09th April 2012

JayStarr says...

The Bulls are so dumb - missing their targets, they probably eye-gouged each other..!

In fact, Flip vd Merwe is the dumbest rugby player in South Africa... I wouldn't be surprised if he gouged himself.

Haha ha...

On a different topic and a more serious note though:

Why did Jannie du Plessis get an off-field yellow card for slapping a player (for which he already received a penalty in the game)... but the Hurricanes players who came in and started punching Sharks players (especially the one who was giving repeated uppercuts and the one who busted open JP Pietersen's lip) got off scot free!?

Are the Highlanders untouchable or something? Because a couple of weeks ago one of their forwards - in full daylight with camera close-up and everything - punched a guy on the ground (and connected), but got off scot free. This after Daniel Braid received a 2-week suspension for the exact same offense (only you couldn't even see who he was punching or if he connected).

Why is nobody question these ridiculous decisions?

Refs have been way too soft on punching so far this season - there have been a few incidents where they SAW the punches, but just gave a penalty / reversed a penalty! But now Jannie gets a yellow for a SLAP..? COME ON!

Anyway, it was worth it nevertheless - it was a BLOODY good slap! Lol

@ dolgun: You make it sound like the Crusaders are going to fly half way accross the world, rock up in Christchurch and take out their frustrations on the poor, defenseless Stormers...

This is not 2011. Have you seen the Stormers? And have you seen how the Crusaders have as of yet not put a solid game of rugby together?

Besides, the 'Saders beat the Stormers twice at Newlands last year... so they'll think they have the psychological advantage in this one and will be pretty confident - especially knowing no SA team has won in Christchurch since 1996 or something.

But trust me, the Stormers are still hurting big time from those losses - and they are very determined to use this opportunity to return the favour. And the thing is, this year they have the ability to do so... And they know it.

They also know that if they want to be the best, they've got to beat the best.

So trust me, they'll be as up for this game as the Crusaders are - if not more. And they won't be nearly as loose in their defense as the Bulls were... So the 'Saders will have to find their A-game - and bring it.

Should be a cracker!

joerugby says...

hey people...in the end, the saders lost! thats right...the 7 time Super rugby champs lost to the most one dimensional South African side. Just tells you the state of NZ rugby. At least if you are a kiwi, you can take comfort in the fact that a kiwi at the top of the IRB manipulated the WC soo much that it was yours for the loosing.

Still, you have never won a world cup outside of NZ...OZ and SA both have! hard luck chaps

This nonsense is sure to rile The Crusaders up for the Stormers game. First loss for the boys from the cape coming right up.

Powerplay is right on the money. Not following up with a complaint after TWO eye gouge accusations is pathetic. Resorting to these tactics is both disgraceful and cowardly.

Posted 15:27 09th April 2012

Euskadi says...

I was very surprised when the allegations were first raised and simply cannot imagine that a Crusader or any Super team for that matter would resort to such tactics but by the same token I find it difficult to believe that any player would deliberately make a false accusation of such a terrible offence or any cowardly act without reason. Its rugby, things happen and an eye could potentially be poked purely by accident, much like head clashes, knees etc so I can understand a player advising the ref of a potential act of foul play during the match thus the ref issuing a white card. But what is the up side for the accuser and his team? Put the opposition off their game? If they know they've done nothing wrong then they'd have nothing to worry about so would continue to play with the same aggression and intensity. I say that there was simply an accident (or 2) the players and ref dealt with it the right way, no case to answer, the Crusaders move on and perhaps the Bulls issue a statement to a similar effect, not an apology as such just a statement simply aclnowledging the process was followed and they accept the findings. Although the no complaint afterwards smells fishy?

@Leebok. ok if it did happen but not shown on camera...What if Chiliboy and Flip tried to braek the Crusaders players finger using their eyes? ever thought of that?! how small minded can you get mate, his fingers must be hurting and you want him to be fined?

@leebok, you are embarassing yourself and your fellow South Africans with your stupid, immature and un-educated comments, give it a rest please.

@chubbylugs

Please explain your logic about consistency

Hartley pleaded guilty whereas no Crusader player did and subsequently no one was found guilty.

Why is there a cross hemisphere issue in this case?

Move on saders, the stormers are waiting.And take your oscars with you,the best were when andy ellis were faking his jumping to obstruct the bulls players, from chasing the high ball.Like they say, you aint 7 times champs for nothing.

JayStarr says...

And people ask why we in the Cape don't like the Bulls. Because the vast majority of them are dumb, dirty, meat heads who speak through their noses and listen to Steve Hofmeyer. Just look at their fans in the stands - bull rings through their noses, red faces and hazy, far-away looks in their eyes... clinging onto their brandy and cokes like it's elixir water... while their kids are throwing middle fingers and swearing like a pirate's parrot... while the uncles are jumping over railings to assault refs and players to the sound of Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" blaring over distorting speakers in the background...

They won't apologise Tod. The fact that they would try something this stupid in the first place should tell you they're not the honourable type... even though they try to pretend to be.

Don't worry... Maybe you'll meet them in the play-offs - and maybe you'll have a more objective trio of refs then as well.

capedcrusader says...

@chubbylegs

For obvious reasons. The Crusaders are a professional side with 7 Super trophies to their name and would never in the professional era need to stoop to the SA level of patheticness.

Hartley is a dirty dirty kiwi reject with a history of foulplay

Really the Bulls sum up the chartacter and reality of the true SA white man. Believe me I've seen it first hand

@ Phill_Moore

trolling at it's best!

Well done mate. you bring a football mentality into the rugby arena. leave your saffer grudge out of the equation and view the incident objectively!

Posted 12:50 09th April 2012

joerugby says...

blood coming out of the eye socket of both Chiliboy Ralepelle and Flip van der Merwe does not indicate an eye gouge??? You dont have to be Columbo to question whether an eye gouging incident occured!

White card system has been very effective thus far. However the refs still miss many cases of foul play - i.e. tip tackle by saders player, shoulder charge by Guildford - both red card offences!

p.s. not a saffer, or even a bulls supporter. just looking at the incident objectively!
